Texture in Art!

Texture in Art!

Textures are all around us. We use our senses every day to see them in the trees that surround us, on the clothes that we wear, and surfaces we touch! Whether it's the smoothness of a flower petal or the ruffled surface of a piece of fabric, artists use textures in their art pieces to evoke emotions in observers and help them feel as if they know exactly what the work will feel like simply by looking at it.

Texture in art refers to the roughness or smoothness that the surface of an artwork appears to have. It is a tactile form of art, which makes an observer almost feel the work just by looking at it. It can be considered visual texture, where the artwork physically feels exactly how it looks; or implied texture, where the artwork looks as if the texture feels a certain way but actually doesn't.

Texture is very important in art because it can evoke emotions in many observers. It appeals to our sense of touch and helps us imagine what the objects in the artwork may actually feel like. Artists use this technique to help people feel and connect with the art!
