Portraiture is an ancient art form which originated from Egypt. Before the invention of photography and video, portraits were recorded by paintings, drawings or sculptures. Portraits were used to demonstrate power, importance, beauty, wealth, and other qualities of the sitter.
Face shapes and features
Each of us have different face shapes (circle, oval, heart...etc.) and features (nose, eyes, ears, mouths...etc.) However in art, we follow a basic guide in order to locate and divide these details accurately.
What better way to learn than in real life?
Ask a family member or friend to sit for you! It may not turn out exactly as a picture would but that's okay. Practice makes perfect and remember to use guides.
