Life in Symmetry

Updated: Nov 9, 2019

What exactly is symmetry in art?

The essence of symmetry helps students understand how the objects in a painting or drawing are arranged so that both sides of the artwork are equal. Symmetry is important in an art piece because it creates balance in colors and compositional techniques.

The line of symmetry is an imaginary line that goes down the center of any object of the drawing which helps the artist see both sides symmetrical.

To help our students understand the importance of symmetry, our teachers designed specific objects that incorporate symmetry which ultimately encourages them to sketch still life art.

But sometimes, art doesn't have to be symmetrical...

If an artist does not want their art to be symmetrical, the artist can use asymmetry, where the sides of the object are not the same.

Art is everywhere no matter the shape, size, or composition... If the artwork is balanced or imbalanced, Priscilla & Tiffany's appreciates all art from our students!
